Match Report

GOALS from Gwion Dafydd and Josh Carey, and some fine saves by Rhys Williams, saw the Seagulls secure their first victory of the season with a 2-0 home victory over defending JD Cymru North champions Holywell Town.

The Bay led 1-0 at half-time and then defended well despite being without suspended Lewis Sirrell and injured skipper Sam Hart, before adding the killer second goal in added time.

Only sour note was keeper Rhys Williams being sent off for a second yellow card (the first for time wasting) in the seventh minute of added time by a referee who dished out nine yellow cards on the night.

Holywell started strongly with Jamie Breeze looking dangerous and Ethan Roberts did well to head a Danny Andrews free kick, that was heading for the top corner, away for a corner.

Jake Roberts and Breeze were narrowly off target while Rhys Nash headed wide from Bay’s first real attack.

It was the Bay who took the lead, however, on 30 minutes when Gwion Dafydd scored from 10 yards after great work by Rhys Nash.

Rhys Williams made a fine close range save from Jake Cooke to keep the Bay in front at half-time.

In the second half Jamie Cumming curled a shot just past the post and Gwion Dafydd had a shot saved by Shaun Pearson, but Holywell pushed hard for an equaliser after that.

Gaz Evans put an effort wide and Rhys Williams made a fine diving save to keep out a Danny Andrews header.

Rhys saved a deflected shot from Jake Roberts and then produced another super save from Jake Roberts after a flick on by Danny Sullivan.

The game was sealed five minutes into added when Bay broke away to score a second goal with a clinical finish by Josh Carey.

Rhys Williams’ second yellow card came for unsporting behaviour right at the end.
