Match Report
DAN ATKINS scored two goals in the space of a minute as Colwyn Bay maintained their position in second spot in the JD Cymru North with a comfortable 7-0 win over Prestatyn Town at the 4 Crosses Construction Arena on Friday night.
Jamie Cumming, Gwion Dafydd, Josh Carey, Lloyd Marsh-Huhes and Ryan Kehoe were the other scorers for the Seagulls, who remain four points behind league leaders Airbus UK Broughton, after their 8-3 win over Holywell Town, who are eight points behind Bay in third spot.
Victory over Prestatyn was Bay’s eighth consecutive league win and extended the unbeaten run in all competitions to 13 games.
And the Bay have now scored 27 goals in their last five league games.
Bay’s preparations were dealt a blow when Rhys Nash was forced to drop out of the starting eleven and replaced by Josh Carey.
The Seagulls made a promising start and patient build up play saw them go ahead inside five minutes when a lovely cross to the far post by Tommy Creamer was headed back and Jamie netted from close range.
Gwion Dafydd, captain Sam Hart and Carey all had opportunities as Bay controlled the play but they had to wait until the 29th minute to double the lead.
A wonderful first time finish by Gwion Dafydd from the edge of the box finished off a great move.
Gwion had another effort ruled for offside before a cross by substitute Joe Williams, set up Dan Atkins, who headed home with the slightest of touches.
Atkins, facing his former club, got his second almost straight from the restart when he scored from close range from Creamer’s cross in first half stoppage time.
Josh Carey got Bay’s fifth with a fine 25-yard effort that left keeper Robbie Williams with no chance.
Substitute Lloyd Marsh-Hughes fired wide of the post when one on one with the keeper but he would score Bay’s sixth goal.
Craig Lindfield did well to chase a long ball and provided the cross for Marsh-Hughes to score.
Bay’s scoring was complete with five minutes remaining when substitute Ryan Kehoe scored his first Bay goal from close range.
