THE Seagulls are in the hat for the third round of the JD Welsh Cup after rescuing their tie at Buckley Town with a controversial 89th minute penalty and then winning the penalty shoot-out 6-5. They looked to be going out as they trailed 2-1 going into the closing minutes, but Jamie Cummings’ penalty levelled the scores from the spot right at the death and in the shoot-out Rhys Williams saved Buckley’s sixth kick low down to put the Seagulls through after Tommy Creamer, Lloyd Marsh-Hughes, Gwion Dafydd, Dan Atkins, Jamie Cumming and Sam Hart had all been successful. Bay made a great start to the game when they took the lead in the opening minute with Gwion Dafydd rolling the ball into an empty net from 20 yards after confusion in the Buckley defence. But on a very heavy pitch Buckley played the conditions the better and equalised on 28 minutes when Callum Humphries rose highest to head home from a free kick. Colwyn Bay had a shout for a penalty waved away when Tommy Creamer looked to be pulled back in the area, and Creamer also hit the post with a good effort before Buckley took the lead through Max Moore on 52 minutes. Bay made five changes and pressed for an equaliser which finally came when they were awarded that late penalty for a foul by the keeper on Lloyd Marsh-Hughes. Even then it needed Sol Forde to clear off the line to prevent Buckley snatching a last gasp winner, before Bay completed a second penalty shoot-out success of the season to move into the next round.
