AFTER receiving the great news that Colwyn Bay has been granted full FAW Academy Status for the 2021/22 season, the club are now starting the process of recruiting new players for all age groups for next season from Under-8s to Under-19s.
Academy Director Matt Sampson commented: “I am delighted with the FAW decision to grant us full Academy status and to have got this over the line.
“We have the infrastructure, facilities and a great core group of staff who are always progressing internally. The support from the board of directors has always been second to none and we have everything in place to keep this Academy moving forward.”
Trails for the different age groups start next week with free trials for the Foundation age groups (Under-8s to Under-11s) being held on Monday June 7th. Both the Head of Phases and the Academy Director will be there to introduce themselves and be around to answer any relevant questions.
Any parents interested in bringing their children along should contact Clive Rushton first on 07766 103781.
Matt Sampson added: “With our open trials, we want to offer every player the opportunity to an elite environment. Whether that be our training sessions, access to first team training sessions or within our new and evolving philosophy, ‘The Bay Way’ which is underpinned on hard working behaviours.
“Across all groups we do not enforce the One Player One Club rule which some other clubs do.
“Football is a multitude of things, a release, a social tool and a problem solving aid. I feel it’s important that we ensure all players do keep in touch with their junior sides and play with their mates”.
“When they come to us players and parents can see the difference between a grassroots and Academy club. There’s no reason, in my opinion why they can’t work in tandem to develop every player further.
“The trials are an open format and we encourage everyone to come down for an opportunity to trial for us for u8-u11.
“We are also hosting trials for our u12-u19 age brackets, but these will be held a little differently where players will take part in training sessions with the team directly.
“We feel during these age brackets, development comes in different forms, the older you get the maturation of individuals changes which could affect a whole host of things. Therefore we feel it’s only fair to offer a longer and more sustained trial period for individuals to have a go.”
