ALEX BROWN saved a penalty and made a brilliant point blank range save late on to help ten-man Colwyn Bay hold on for a 2-0 victory away to Briton Ferry Llansawel after having George Hughes red carded.
After first half goals from a Jordan Davies penalty and Sol Forde, Alex’s heroics helped Bay keep a fifth consecutive clean sheet (seven now in the last nine games) and keeps the Seagulls just three points off third place in the JD Cymru Premier table.
They had a great start, being awarded a penalty for a trip on Ethan Roberts after just four minutes and Jordan Davies sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot for his seventh goal of the season.
Nathan Peate then volleyed just over the bar from a corner and George Hughes shot just wide from the edge of the box after good play by Aron Williams.
The Bay, however, doubled their lead on 39 minutes when the ball was worked out wide and Jordan Davies’ cross was played back in by Louis Robles for Sol Forde to tap home his first goal of the season in what his 50th game for the club.
The visitors were pushing for a third goal in the second half when they had George Hughes red carded and Briton Ferry awarded a penalty – but Alex Brown made a fine save with his legs from Corey Hurford’s spot kick to keep the score at 2-0.
Briton Ferry hit the bar with a header and pressed hard against the ten men, but the Bay defended well and Alex Brown made a brilliant point blank save late on to help secure three valuable points.
