Alex Downes

WE are delighted to welcome Alex Downes back to the Bay!

Alex returns for a third spell at the club having previously made 107 appearances and scored 22 goals for the club, winning the Registered Supporters Player of the Season in 2020 and 2024.

He made his Bay debut during our time in the Evo-Stik League, away to Trafford in October 2018 after initially coming on loan from Chester, prior to being signed in May 2019 after leaving Chester.

The 25-year-old spent a couple of seasons at Runcorn Linnets during the pandemic shut down in Wales but returned ahead of the 2022/23 season and won the JD Cymru North title.

He scored Bay’s first winner in the JD Cymru Premier, a header to seal a 1-0 win at Penybont but left the 4 Crosses Construction following relegation in order to continue in the top flight.

Joining Bala Town he made his debut for the Colin Caton’s side in the Europa Conference League and scored three goals in 10 league appearances for the club before a serious knee injury ruled him out for the season.

Ales said: “I’m delighted to be re-signing for Colwyn Bay Football Club.

“This club holds a very special place in my heart and it’s somewhere I can proudly call home.

“This decision feels right for me, both personally and professionally.

“After speaking with Mike and Danny about the project they’ve put in place, it was clear it was something I wanted to be part of.

“Hopefully, I can play a pivotal role in the success we aim to achieve along the way.

“On a personal note, last season was a really difficult time for me due to the injury I sustained.

“But this comeback is personal and I’m returning to this club with more experience, more hunger, and a deep desire to help the team grow and achieve great things moving forward.

“I also want to take a moment to thank Bala Town FC for everything over the last 12 months.

“A special thank you to Colin, the staff, and all the players for making me and my family feel so welcome. I wish the club nothing but the very best for the future.”
