We are delighted Alex Downes has rejoined the club fom Runcorn Linnets.

Alex made his Bay debut away to Trafford in October 2018 after coming on loan from Chester.

He made 20 appearances at full back and scored two goals from set pieces at Colne and Glossop before signing permanently when Chester released him at the end of the 2018/19 season.

During the curtailed 2019/20 campaign, our first in the JD Cymru North, he made  28 appearances – scoring against Prestatyn Town and the match winner away to Llanrhaeadr.

Alex won the supporters Player of the Season award for 2019/20, before joining Runcorn Linnetts when Welsh football was suspended due to the pandemic.

Alex said:

“After speaking with Steve and Covs, I am very happy and motivated to be playing at Colwyn Bay next season.

“I spoke with Steve a few weeks ago and he told me the ambitions and aspirations of the club. I did have interest from other clubs but the project Steve has in place at the Bay sounded very exciting and it was something I really wanted to be a part of it.

“Me and Steve have the same ambitions and that is to take this club to the Welsh Prem and in the near future to achieve European football.

“This is where the club belongs especially with the amount of supporters they have, the history of the club and the facilities the club have.

“My main aim this coming season is to gain promotion and play as many games as I possibly can to the best of my ability.

“The fanbase was a big factor in me returning to Colwyn Bay, the fans were great with me when I was last here and made me feel appreciated and like I was an important player in the team. I can’t wait to put back on the claret and blue, COYS!”

Steve Evans said:

“I’m so pleased to agree terms with Alex and welcome him back into the Bay family.

“He’s strong, athletic and has that burning desire to win.

“Seagulls fans will remember him as a full back who has great energy and quality, although he’s spent the majority of last season playing centre back, so he gives us plenty of options and healthy competition across our defensive line.

“As I’ve mentioned before, the aim is to build a squad capable of winning the title whilst creating the right environment for all of us to grow as players, staff, fans but most importantly as people.

“I want us to challenge each other in a healthy way to make us stronger as a squad, club. I believe Alex certainly adds to that.

“I can’t wait to get going and see him develop even more and help us challenge for the title.

“Welcome back to the Bay Alex.”
