THE Seagulls have been drawn away to Connah’s Quay Nomads in the quarter-finals of the JD Welsh Cup, to be played in February.
Nomads, reigning Cymru Premier champions, are currently in the bottom four of the Cymru Premier League, having won only two of their nine league games so far, but they will still be a big hurdle for Craig Hogg’s side to clear if they are to progress to the last four.
The two clubs have not met in a competitive fixture since 2010, when the Bay had a runaway 10-0 victory on Deeside in the North Wales Coast FA Senior Challenge Cup, with Ian Sheridan scoring four of the goals. But Connah’s Quay were comfortable 7-3 winners in a pre-season friendly at Llanelian Road ahead of the 2017/18 season.
The Bay last faced Connah’s Quay in the Welsh Cup during the 1991/92 season. In a second round tie. The sides drew 1-1 at Nomads’ old Halfway Ground before Bryn Jones’ side won 6-0 in a replay at Llanelian Road and went on to reach the semi-finals that season.
