GUILSFIELD extended their unbeaten league record to 11 games as Colwyn Bay slipped to a third successive league defeat in the JD Cymru North.

Sam Downey fired over the bar for Bay while Tom McCready had a free-kick saved by keeper Michael Jones during a tight first half which finished goalless.

The only goal of the game came six minutes into the second period with Iwan Lewis scoring his second of the season for second-placed Guilsfield, who stay four points behind leaders Airbus with a game in hand.

Bay had a James Kirby goal disallowed for offside.

Colwyn Bay manager Craig Hogg commented: “It’s a game we probably should have got something from on the chances we created.

‘It was a big disappointment to leave Guilsfield empty handed in the end.

“We’ve had really good opportunities to score in both periods, but the goal against  was really poor, early in the second half, from a set play.

“We had a good goal disallowed (after they scored) for offside which looks like an error from the official on that side.

“But on the chances we created, that offside one being chalked off, shouldn’t really have been a talking point in the end.

“It was another game where for us the performance didn’t translate into a result, against a decent side and it’s clearly a frustration for us at the moment”

Assistant manager Iain Bennett tweeted: “Not the result that the performance deserved today, lads were excellent and limited a good side to few opportunities, Massive thanks to the @ColwynBayFC fans for travelling in their numbers, it’s massively appreciated.

“We work hard and we go again.”
