SEAGULLS Director of Football Neil Coverley is delighted to make public the formation of a ladies section within the football club.
“One of my tasks in recent seasons was to make the football club and the community forge stronger relationships,” says Neil.
“As a club we brought the juniors closer and become a more integral part of us, the Academy has had an overhaul in recent months and is becoming stronger month by month, and now we have a group of coaches learning, engaging and very proactive under Head Coach Matt Sampson.”
The formation of a Senior Ladies team, which will apply to be part of the newly formed Tier 2 North for the 2021/22 season, is truly exciting news and one which help give an opportunity for local girls and ladies to play football at a very high standard against the best in Wales.
“It will be managed by former Welsh U17 international Louisha Doran, who has great playing experience and will make the step up to begin the A Licence coaching qualification very soon.”
Academy head Matt Sampson added: “I want the Women’s team and subsequent girls Academy U19s to have real sustainability within the Colwyn Bay FC banner and it signifies the importance and value that we place on the development of the women’s game at Colwyn Bay Football Club.”
Aspiring girls of various ages are urged to keep an eye on our Social Media channels and website in the upcoming weeks for ways to register interest in becoming part of the ladies set up. Initial reaction has been very encouraging and we will be issuing more information regarding training nights and age groups as soon as we can safely do so.
