THE Seagulls suffered a 4-0 defeat away to Pontypridd United which leaves them adrift at the foot of the table, with seven games left to save their season.

They were 2-0 down inside half-an-hour against a Pontypridd side that have been rejuvenated by new manager Gavin Allen, and although they were unlucky not get back in the game in the second half when Owen Cushion hit the bar and Matty Hill had a goal ruled out for offside, the home side sealed victory with two further goals in the last 10 minutes.

Dan Atkins had an early shot blocked at the near post, but after Kieran Lewis had clipped the post with a shot from edge of the area, he gave Pontypridd the lead on 21 minutes , stabbing home from close range.

Owen Pritchard then added a second eight minutes later.

Home keeper George Ratcliffe made a fine save from Alex Downes before half-time and was the busier keeper early in the second half when he dived to turn shots from Alex Downes and Dan Atkins away for corners, while Sam Hart headed another Bay chance wide.

Despite a spirited start to the second half by the Bay they couldn’t get the goal they needed to spark and revival.

Matt Hill did find the net, but the flag was already up for offside and Owen Cushion was unlucky when his volley from the edge of the area came back off the bar.

Tom McCready also sent a volley straight at the keeper.

Pontypridd put the game out of reach in the closing stages.

Joe Smith made a an excellent save to deny Ethan Vaughan, but was unable to cut out to crosses which led to Ben Margetson scoring with a looping header and Luke Gullick adding a fourth.
