SAM TURNER scored a debut goal as the Bay won their second pre-season friendly 3-1 at newly promoted Denbigh Town.

The summer signing, who is a product of the Chester Academy, missed the first game at Flint last week, but celebrated his first start with a crisp finish, after earlier firing wide following a lovely Bay build-up and great low cross from Alex Downes.

Matty Hill and Dylan Allshorn were also on target as the Bay scored all three of their goals in a decisive 17 minute first half spell after a fairly even opening 20 minutes

The impressive Dan Jones set up two of the goals with good runs as the Bay finished the first half well on top.

Denbigh keeper Aaron Jones made three fine saves in the second half to deny Dan Jones a goal his performance deserved, before Steve Evans made a number of changes with Marcus Rhys-Williams and Under-19 players Joel Giblin and Will McKinley among those coming on.

Denbigh pulled a goal back late on with a neat turn a shot in off the post by summer signing Tom Weir, after he had earlier been denied by a fine save from Bay’s trialist goalkeeper.

Manager Steve Evans commented: “I was really pleased with the intensity of the press and the way we kept them locked in and stuck in their half.

“We were playing some good football and created some good opportunities and converted a couple.

“I’m pleased with today, it’s minutes in the legs.”
