THE Seagulls welcomed in 2023 with a 6-0 home victory over Guilsfield in front of a bank holiday crowd of 712.
Tom McCready and Alex Downes both scored twice, with Jamie Cumming and Matty Hill also on target for Bay who were 5-0 up by half-time.
They put Guilsfield under immediate pressure and were in front after just four minutes with Cumming getting the final touch in a goalmouth scramble.
Hill shot over the bar from the edge of the box after a run from the halfway line before McCready finished off a fine team move at the near post to make it 2-0 on 20 minutes.
Four minutes later Alex Downes headed home from a McCready corner.
Guilsfield keeper Robbie Williams made a good to deny McCready after good work by Matty Hill and Cameron Darling made a good save from a rare Guilsfield attack before Bay hit two goals in a minute right at the end of the half.
Alex Downes rose at the far post to head his second from another McCready corner and from the kick off Hill intercepted a pass back to round the keeper and score Bay’s fifth.
McCready swept home a Matty Hill cross for number six ten minutes into the second half which saw manager Steve Owen ring the changes with five substitutions.
Bay couldn’t add to their tally after that although Matty Hill and Craig Lindfield both brought good saves out of the keeper and Lindfield was unlucky with a free kick that hit the angle of bar and post.
