Match Report

COLWYN BAY were given a tough baptism to life in the top flight of Welsh football with a 4-0 home defeat against Caernarfon Town in front of an all-ticket crowd of 1,411.

Three goals in a devastating 10-minute second half spell took the game away from the Seagulls, who were punished clinically for individual errors.

Caernarfon’s new loan signing from Chester, Zack Clarke, made an impressing debut for Cofis and formed a potent new-look strike force with the prolific Adam Davies, who scored over 30 goals for Airbus in their 2021-22promotion season.

Bay’s attack, in compatison, struggled against the visitors strong defensive unit and rarely troubled ex- Bay keeper Ryan Woods in the Caernarfon goal .

The Seagulls started the game brightly and dominated the early possession, but couldn’t make that pay, with Alex Downes, Nick Rushton, Matty Hill and Sam Turner all putting efforts off target.

Having weathered the early storm, Caernarfon gradually began to take control and took the lead on 36 minutes with a fine header at the far post by Darren Thomas from a Marc Williams cross.

Danny Holmes had a chance to equalise before half-time, but put his header wide from Sam Turner’s corner.

Caernarfon then bossed much of the second half with Zack Clarke putting two headers wide and having another effort saved by Bay keeper Joe Smith, before those three killer goals in the space of 10 minutes.

Adam Davies scored with a deflected shot after Alex Downes had been caught in possession, and then set up Zack Clarke for the third before Davies got his second of the game from Clarke’s acrobatic pull-back.

The Bay strove for a consolation goal late on, but the nearest they came was a volleyed effort over the bar from Alex Downes.
