Match Report

Holyhead Hotspur FC 0 – Colwyn Bay FC 0

They  created several chances but couldn’t force a goal to take the three points.

Lewis Sirrell went close from a free kick early on, while Jack Higgins had a header saved and missed the target with two other efforts before half-time.

Tom McCready had a thunderbolt shot parried away by home keeper Paul Pritchard and Sam Jones was narrowly wide before Julian Williams headed another chance wide from a corner in added time.

There  could also be  another injury concern with Sion Edwards having to come off late on with an ankle problem.

On the plus side, keeper Andy Coughlin marked his 50th appearance for the club with a second successive clean sheet.

Manager Craig Hogg commented: “It was a difficult night for a number of reasons and I’m very proud of how our players applied themselves.

“The squad were told the sad news of Bill Murray’s passing in the hours leading up to kick off and the message in the team talk was to go out and give a performance to serve his memory in the best way possible. I felt the lads did that.

“The only thing missing was a goal.

“We imposed ourselves on the opposition again, which is encouraging, but that goal just didn’t come.

“I think you have to give Holyhead great credit for how well they defended.

“Both teams had good cases for a penalty, so that wouldn’t have made much of a difference, and in fairness to them, they had one or two half chances as well.

“It is a good point on the road and a fair result.

“In the grand scheme of things it could prove to be a good point.”

Craig added: “Football is a strange game to be involved in at times.

“This was my 70th game in charge as manager and Bill was the man who appointed me back in September 2018.

“I wish he was still here. I will miss him dearly and I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity he gave me to be manager of this special club.

“I know he will always be supporting us.”
