Match Report
THE BAY came from behind to secure a fourth straight win in the JD Cymru North with a 2-1 victory over Gresford Athletic at the Four Crosses Arena on Friday evening.
Captain Tom McCready made his 100th appearance for the Seagulls but it looked as though the visitors would spoil his big night.
Robbie Parry had struck the crossbar for the Bay before Kieran Evans gave Gresford the lead on 36 minutes, scoring after good work from Joshua Griffiths.
The introduction of Danny Edwards and Cai Owen made a difference and Bay levelled through Kristian Platt’s header from substitute Edwards’ corner on 76 minutes.
James Kirby secured Bay’s comeback with his eighth goal in four games, scoring from the penalty spot with seven minutes remaining after McCready had been brought down by Adam Hesp.
Bay remain fifth after completing a league double over Gresford,
Bay manager Craig Hogg commented after the game;
“It was a difficult game and I was pleased with the three points.
“The most pleasing thing from tonight however was the impact the players made from the bench, when they came on.
“Cai Owen, Dan Edwards and George Mannion brought with them a sea of change and I’m really pleased for the lads.
“In the first half Gresford were a genuine threat in their build up phase and counter attack play. They caused us some problems.
“The goal they scored was very good indeed.
“That’s probably the best they’ve played against us in the three matches we’ve had this season and it goes with out saying I was impressed with their first half performance tonight.
“In the second half we were more vibrant on the ball and took control of the game. In the end I felt we were about worthy of the win.
“It was a special night for our captain Tom McCready who marked 100 competitive games for the club and, I think it was only fitting for him, that we were able to honour that milestone with a victory.
“Tom continues to be an example to many in our dressing room both on and off the pitch.
“I hope to see him complete the next 100 games for the club in the seasons to come.”
