Match Report

COLWYN BAY extended the unbeaten start by manager Steve Evans to four games with a 3-1 home victory over Buckley Town in front of another excellent Friday night crowd of 898.

All three goals came in the first half, with the prolific James Kirby adding to his tally with two, and Craig Linfield getting the third – which was Bay’s 50th league goal of the campaign (only Airbus have scored more).

The win increases the pressure on third-placed Guilsfield – although they do have a game in hand.

Steve Evans went for an unchanged starting line-up and the Bay dominated the first half, with Kirby opening the scoring after only six minutes.

Linfield and Cai Owen both missed chances from close range, Kieran Evans fired just over the bar and the Bay had a penalty shout turned down before Kirby added a second on 27 minutes from a Ryan Edwards cross.

Linfield scored a third five minutes before half-time from Kirby’s cross.

Kirby went close to completing a second successive treble early in the second half and was also denied by Buckley keeper Josef Makaruk as he tried to go round him in a one-on-one.

The visitors, however, posed more of a threat in the second period, pulled a goal back through Scott McHarrie, and had another effort cleared off the line. Colwyn Bay also had chances to increase their lead with Keiran Evans, Lindfield and Kirby all missing the target.

COLWYN BAY: Ryan Neild, Joe Williams (Yellow card), Stefan Edwards, Cai Owen, Lewis Sirrell, Tom McCready (c), Kieran Evans, Craig Linfield (Robbie Parry 70), Kristian Platt (Sam Jones 55), Ryan Edwards, James Kirby (Ash Woods 80). Unused subs: Danny Edwards, James Ellison.
