Uchafbwyntiau Sgorio Highlights

FIRST half goals from Sam Hart and Kristian Platt were enough to give the Seagulls a 2-0 win at home to Chirk AAA to go 12 points clear at the top of the JD Cymru North with their 24th consecutive league victory.

It was another professional performance against a Chirk side who kept battling to the end.

After a fairly even start in which Tom McCready had a shot saved by Chirk keeper Callum Taylor, Bay took the lead on 18 minutes when Sam Hart scored from close range from Cai Owen’s cross.

Kristian Platt added the second on 31 minutes with a far post header from Tom McCready’s corner.

Max McLaughlin was narrowly wide with a good long range effort for Chirk, but Bay could have added a third before half-time with Lewis Sirrell heading wide from another McCready corner and Stef Edwards having an effort blocked for a corner from a great cross by Tom Creamer.

The Bay could not make anything of a series of corners early in the second half and they had to dig in as Chirk missed out on a couple of half chances and then had an effort cleared off the line by Sam Downey after what appeared to be a foul on Bay keeper Jack Crichton.

Late on good work by Craig Lindfield put Matty Hill in on goal but his shot was saved by Callum Taylor.

Joel Giblin, who had scored the winner for the Under-19s against Caernarfon Town last weekend, was given a brief run out in the closing minutes.

Manager Steve Evans commented later that Chirk had been threat throughout but came up against a Colwyn Bay defence that stood strong and he felt his side always looked in control after scoring the two first half goals.

“Second half Chirk huffed and puffed and played some decent football at times, but we always looked in control and could possibly have scored a couple more goals,” he added.

“All in all it was a great three points and a clean sheet. It’s another game ticked off with five more to go!”
