THE Seagulls are devastated to report that striker Damien Ketley has taken the tough decision to hang up his boots after suffering another crippling knee injury.
Manager Craig Hogg reported: “It appears that he now has the exact same injury to his right knee (ruptured meniscus) as he suffered to his left knee playing against Porthmadog in in the 2019/20campaign.
“Damo worked so hard and long to get fit and to get back playing again after surgery – and for the identical injury to happen to both knees is just so cruel.
“He has looked very good since we reported back for pre-season and this news is a big blow. We are all just devastated for him.
“Damien has now, reluctantly, made the very difficult decision to call time on his playing career.
“He knows how much he is valued here and how highly he is thought of by all the players and staff at the club.
“We all support him with the decision he has made, but he could still have a big role to play here at the Bay in some form if he so wishes and given time.
“It has been a real pleasure to work with him since he joined us in the summer of 2019.
“He will not just be remembered for the goal he scored away at Rhyl in the 19/20 season, or the incredible performance he gave us away at Buckley in the MG Cup (in our only game of the 20/21 season) after being out for so long post operation.
“I will certainly remember the total and non-stop work rate, commitment and passion he has given us when in a Bay shirt.
“I thank him dearly for that and it is something I will personally never forget.”
