JODAN DAVIES scored the only goal of the game direct from a corner as the Seagulls ended their pre-season programme with a 1-0 win over Northern Premier League side Bootle at the Blue Turtle Arena.

The result is a boost ahead of next Friday’s opening Cymru Premier fixture against Trefelin.

In a goalless first half it needed a top close range save by Bootle keeper Bayleigh Passant to prevent Adam Davies giving Bay the lead, after Declan Poole and Jordan Davies had both fired shots off target and Bootle’s Ryan Beigan had a free kick blocked by Bay’s defensive wall and put another shot narrowly wide.

The only goal came on 54 minutes when Jordan Davies bent a corner kick straight into the net and Matty Hill was unlucky not to double the lead when his screamer smashed onto a post.

Bootle worked hard for an equaliser in the closing stages with Jack Lenehan having a shot saved while Ste Edwards saw hit effort blocked on the line, but the Bay held on for a welcome victory and a third clan sheet.

The Bay squad on duty were: Mark Halstead, Dan Roberts, Declan Poole, Lewis Sirrell, Sol Forde, Ryan Astles, Matty Hill, Aeron Edwards, Adam Davies, Louis Robles, Jordan Davies. Subs: Seb Osment, Aaron Williams, Nathan Peate, Sam Hart, Ethan Roberts, Issa Kargbo, Jack Kenny, Max McGoona.
