UDI AKPAN got his first goal for Colwyn Bay and was named Sgorio Man of the Match as the Bay made it back to back wins with a 3-1 home victory over Aberystwyth Town.
Tom Creamer, with another screamer, and Dan Jones were the other Bay scorers in front of a fantastic Friday evening crowd of 1,003.
The Bay made a good start and were ahead inside 12 minutes when Tom Creamer, from a quickly take free kick, rifled in another spectacular strike from 25 yards.
Udi Akpan had a great chance to make it 2-0 by hit the post with an open goal in front of him after a mistake by visitors keeper Sam Green who raced to the edge of his area and saw the ball bounce over him.
But the Seagulls did double their lead on 27 minutes when Jamie Cumming threaded a great ball through for Dan Jones to finish coolly into the bottom corner of the net.
Udi Akpan then had an effort cleared off the line and had another shot blocked for a corner, before Aberystwyth pulled a goal back right on half-time with a fierce long range strike from Iwan Lewis.
Bay’s two goal lead was restored four minutes into the second half, however, when Udi Akpan, who had been a handful all night with his strength and hold up play, controlled a cross from the left and struck a shot with the outside of his right foot which the keeper got a hand to, but couldn’t stop the ball crossing the line before clawing it away at the second attempt.
Harry Owen headed a great chance for Aber over the bar and they forced a number of corners as the strived to get back in the game, but they never really tested Alfie Brooks and Matty Hill came close to a fourth for the Bay with a shot just over the bar as they saw the game out for an excellent first home win of the campaign.
Speaking to Sgorio after the game, manager Steve Evans said: “I thought we were the better team from first whistle to the finish and thoroughly deserved the win.
“Udi with his work rate and threat up front was deservedly man of the match, but I thought that could have gone to two or three of them tonight because they were all excellent.”
