MATT SAMPSON ends a long association with the club when he leaves his posts as first team coach and Academy Director at the end of the month.
Matt played for and later helped manage the old Colwyn Bay Reserve team which won two League Cup finals and finished as League runners-up in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Reserve League before taking his coaching badges and then rejoining the club in 2020 to take over as Head of the Academy.
He was appointed as part of the first team coaching set-up at the start of last season which ended with the Bay winning promotion to the Welsh Premier and completing a League and Cup double.
Matt commented: “It is with a heavy heart that I will be leaving my roles within Colwyn Bay FC as Academy Director and first team coach as of the end of June.
“I’d like to thank the board, staff, parents, players and the fans for the incredible support I’ve had since rejoining the club in 2020. I’d particularly like to thank Neil Covs, Hoggy and Evo for their support and with being brought back into the first team environment.
“I am proud to have been part of a record number of Academy players being selected into FAW regional squads, English Academy trials and Academy players being selected to represent the first team.
“With that, the brilliant journey we had last year with the first team, winning the league and cup double and the Academy lads putting up a gallant display in the national final of the WBS Cup, are memories that will live long with me.
“Now, to see what’s next on my footballing journey!”
