Friday night action continues at Llanellian Road as this week we welcome another South-based side in Cambrian United for a 7:45pm Kick Off in the Novira Cymru Premier.
An entertaining draw played out in our last game against Cardiff Met, where the Seagulls were down to ten men for the majority of the fixture yet still came away with a valiant point, manager Mike Wilde even being disappointed in a sense that his side ‘didn’t earn all three’ to continue the 100%-win streak at home this season.
Our attention now turns to Cambrian United, a side we have never previously faced, who have been commended for their efforts in previous seasons to now see them as the first side from the Rhondda Valley to compete in the top tier of Welsh football since Ton Pentre 30 years ago.
Previously known as Cambrian & Clydach Vale, and having Terry Venables as honorary Chairman in the 2010s, the Cam Army have had an entertaining start to life as part of the new 16-team format in the Cymru Premier, conceding 9 goals in a game twice but also beating North-based sides such as Flint, Holywell and Llandudno.
Focus on Friday
Looking ahead to Friday, we hope to not have as much worry over playing conditions for this week’s fixture after the previous storms faced over last week.
The travelling away team will most likely be spearheaded by Liam Eason, twice top goalscorer in the Cymru South; he hasn’t been fazed by the step up a league with 9 goals in the division to his name so far this season.
Their setup will be quite similar to that of when Airbus came to Llanellian Road this season, looking to be quite aggressive in the attack and essentially outscore Bay- it does leave them vulnerable to counter attacking opportunities which the Seagulls will try and exploit over the 90 minutes.
Friday’s squad could see the return of Louis Robles and Dan Roberts, who missed Cardiff Met with a minor injuries, but will miss the inclusion of Ryan Astles, who will be suspended for 3 matches after his red card in the last game.
