NICK RUSHTON scored his first goal in a Bay shirt as the Seagulls opened their pre-season programme with a 1-1 draw at Flint Mountain FC.
Flint took the lead after only five minutes, but Rushton equalised from the penalty spot after Lloyd Marsh-Hughes had been brought down in the area.
Bay, who were missing a number of players through holidays and injuries and included some trialists and Under-19 players in their squad, will see this as a useful first work-out against a side who already had three pre-season games under their belt.
The home side were unlucky to hit the bar in the first half and Bay’s trialist keeper made a good diving save to push another effort away for a corner, but Bay created some good opportunities of their own with Flint’s keeper making an excellent close range save from Lloyd Marsh-Hughes after a good run and cross by Dylan Allshorn, and the trialist right winger sent a shot narrowly over the bar from the edge of the area.
In the second half Bay kept possession much better and Ryan Edwards had a shot tipped over the bar by the home keeper and skimmed the bar with another effort, while Alex Downes had a shot deflected over the bar for one of a number of corners.
Jamie Cumming fired a free kick narrowly wide and had another shot saved by the keeper as the Bay, who also had a strong shout for a late penalty waved away, chased an illusive winner.
