THE Seagulls are closing in on another record ahead of Tuesday’s home game against Gresford Athletic (7:45 kick-off), needing 10 more goals for the most scored in a JD Cymru North season (since it replaced the old Huws Gray Cymru Allance in 2019).
Airbus scored 85 goals in 28 games in winning the title last season and the Bay, who have already set a new record this season for the most consecutive league wins (currently standing at 19), have so far scored 76 goals in just 20 games, averaging nearly four goals a game with 10 to play.
Skipper Tom McCready (13) needs two more to replace James Kirby as this season’s top scorer, with Alex Downes (12) and Matty Hill (11) his main challengers, but the most pleasing thing for manager Steve Evans will be that the goals have been spread right around the squad with 17 different players getting of the scoresheet.
Gresford were beaten 3-1 at home by Holyhead Hotspur on Saturday and have scored only 17 goals in 19 games (only Chirk have scored less), but they have proved they can be dangerous opponents and the manager is expecting another tough game.
He hopes to have one or two more players available for selection after they were left out of the squad that beat Llanidloes as a precaution due to minor knocks.
Facing a run of three games in eight days, he will want to utilise his squad as much as possible.
A 20th league win on Tuesday would temporarily put the Bay 14 points clear at the top of the table as they chase the title and promotion to the Cymru Premier.
