COLWYN BAY were beaten 5-1 away to Cymru Premier champions The New Saints on a disappointing night.
The home side totally dominated the first half and were 3-0 up by half-time. It was only after The New Saints had scored their fifth that Colwyn Bay began to show a bit of character with Nathan Peate pulling a goal back and Adam Davies hitting the bar.
Seagulls keeper Mark Halstead had to make a number of saves before TNS took the lead through Josh Lock on 26 minutes and Lock then scored a spectacular second before Rhys Hughes added a third from the penalty spot before half-time.
Jordan Williams chipped Halstead for the fourth goal five minutes into the second half and Doninic Corness got number five (his first for the club) five minutes later.
After a number of changes Colwyn Bay played their best football of the game in the last 30 minutes, with Nathan Peate pulling a goal back from a goalmouth scramble following a corner on 62 minutes.
Jordan Davies had a shot turned for a corner by home keeper Nathan Shepherd and fired another chance over the bar, before Adam Davies hit a shot against the bar and Matty Hill fired wide from the rebound.
Jack Kenny also had a shot saved by the keeper in the closing minutes.
Manager Mike Wilde said afterwards: “We certainly wanted to make a better account of ourselves, but we’ve got to quickly learn from it and move on because there’s a big game on Monday”
