THE SEAGULLS face an in-form Newtown as they look to extend their own winning form at the 4 Crosses Arena on Saturday (Sept 23, 2:30pm).

Manager Steve Evans will have his side prepared and ready for the challenge and will be looking for another big home crowd to get behind the team for what looks like beng a hard-fought game.

After a poor start to the season, with three defeats and a draw in their opening four games, Newtown travel north on a high after three successive league wins – including a 4-0 away win at Haverfordwest in which Aaron Williams scored his 50th goal for the club in just 85 appearances.

His previous clubs include Peterborough United, Newport County and Rushall Olympic, with whom he won an England C cap against the Republic of Ireland in 2015.

Evo commented: “You can tell from their last couple of results that they are finding their feet.
“They’ve got some great players and are very well organised and it’s going to be a
tough test.”

Experienced Newtown manager Chris Hughes, who was previously a number two at Prestatyn Town and Rhyl, is in his ninth season in charge at Latham Park, having guided them to an historic Europa League win over Valetta of Malta in 2015 prior to them going out to FC Copenhagen in the following round.

Commenting recently on the club website, Chris Hughes said: “We know that we didn’t get off to the best of starts to the season, but our performance levels in the last three games have been very pleasing.

“It was good to get up-and-running with our first win and then we took the confidence gained from that into the trip to Haverfordwest where, to be fair, we dominated from start to finish.

“It’s never an easy place to go to, so to come home with a 4-0 win and good performances all over the pitch was fantastic.”
