COLWYN BAY’s fifth pre-season game brought a second defeat as they lost 2-0 away to National League North side Marine on Merseyside.
Bay’s management used the game to give several players their first starts and again made wholesale changes in the second half to give as many of the squad as possible more valuable game-time, but Marine were always in the box seat after scoring two goals in the opening 20 minutes.
After repelling early Bay pressure, Conor McAleny put the home side in front after nine minutes and then Jamie Potter got their second with a header at the back post.
The Seagulls worked hard to try and get back in the game, but it needed two saves from Mark Halstead to prevent Charlie Jolley extending the home side’s lead before half-time.
In the second half Colwyn Bay couldn’t touch home a ball across the face of the Marine goal, while home keeper Jack McIntyre made an excellent save and the defensive wall blocked a dangerous free kick to ensure the home side finished with a clean sheet.
At the other end Bay substitute keeper Seb Osment did well to touch a Marine free kick over the bar.
The Colwyn Bay squad on duty were: Mark Halstead, Dan Roberts, Nathan Peate, Sam Hart, George Hughes, Aeron Edwards, Aron Williams, Issa Kargbo, Uniss Kargbo, Louis Robles, Jack Kenny. Subs: Seb Osment, Declan Poole, Sol Forde, Ryan Astles, Lewis Sirrell, Callum Bratley, Matty Hill, Jordan Davies, Adan Davies, Trialist.
