The Colwyn Bay F.C. Foundation is delighted to announce a partnership with Coleg Llandrillo to launch a Community & Sport Development programme, creating a unique education and career pathway for young people across North Wales from September 2027.
Open to students aged 16 and over, the programme will combine academic study with hands-on experience, giving students the opportunity to gain valuable qualifications while developing the practical skills needed to build a career in sport, community development and public services.
Students will spend three days a week at Llandrillo College’s Rhos-on-Sea campus, choosing to study one of three qualifications: Sports Coaching, Sport & Exercise Science or Public Services.
Alongside their college studies, students will spend one day a week on placement directly with the Colwyn Bay F.C. Foundation, gaining real-world experience across three key areas:
- Community Delivery: supporting community engagement, health and wellbeing, education and employability initiatives.
- Sport Development: planning and delivering sports coaching sessions in schools and local communities.
- Community Programme Planning: developing the skills and knowledge needed to plan, organise and deliver impactful community programmes.
The programme will be fully coursework-based, with no exams, and students who successfully complete their studies will achieve qualifications equivalent to three A Levels, alongside additional qualifications and practical experience gained through their placement with the Foundation.
Josh Antoniou, representing the Colwyn Bay F.C. Foundation, said: “The Foundation launched in January this year and has already engaged with over 9,000 unique participants across North Wales. From education and youth provision to sports coaching, mental health workshops and employability programmes, we’re continuing to build opportunities that make a genuine difference to people’s lives.
“This partnership with Coleg Llandrillo is an exciting next step, creating a pathway for young people to develop their skills, gain meaningful experience and take their first steps towards a career in community and sport development.
“We want to give students more than just a qualification. By combining their education with hands-on experience in the communities we serve, we can help develop the next generation of Community Development Officers while continuing to create a lasting, positive impact across North Wales.”
The partnership reflects the shared ambition of the Colwyn Bay F.C. Foundation and Coleg Llandrillo to create opportunities for young people, strengthen communities and develop the next generation of talent within the sport and community development sector.
