COLWYN BAY failed to score for the third game running and dropped out of the top six in the JD Cymru Premier League after a 1-0 defeat away to high-flying Penybont.
A goal scored a minute before half-time was enough for Penybont to take all three points and although the Seagulls hit the woodwork and had chances to equalise, once again their finishing let them down as they suffered their third league defeat of the campaign.
Penybont started the first half strongly and had a couple of early chances, with Alex Brown having to parry away a shot from Gabriel Kircough, while a Kane Owen drive was gathered by the Bay keeper.
The Seagulls started to get more into the game and Nathan Peate headed over the bar from a free kick and Louis Robles shot just wide after a good Colwyn Bay move and was then in on goal but was denied by a good save from Penybont keeper Archie Matthews.
Jamie Cumming was then unlucky to see a header come back off the woodwork.
The Bay, however, suffered the killer blow just before the break when Jac Clay scored for Penybont with a far post header.
In the second half Aeron Edwards struck a volley straight at the keeper and Jordan Davies failed to connect with an attempted shot from 12 yards, while Nathan Peate fired over the bar from a long throw.
Ethan Roberts fired a low ball across the six yard box but nobody could add the finishing touch.
