Match Report

TWO second half goals from Alex Downes gave the Seagulls a 2-0 home win over Porthmadog to move them into the top four of the Cymru North table with a game in hand on the teams above them.

Colwyn Bay and table-toppers Llandudno are the only sides who are still unbeaten.

The Bay dominated much of the first half against Porthmadog but couldn’t convert their chances, although Matty Hill had a goal ruled out for offside after getting on the end of an Alex Downes cross to the back post.

Tom Creamer had a shot deflected for a corner and another blocked, Lewis Sirrell missed a big chance by shooting over of the bar from six yards following a corner, James Kirby had two shots saved by Porthmadog keeper Morgan Jones and was off target with two other efforts and Tom McCready’s long range free kick also brought a good save from the keeper.

McCready also twice shot narrowly wide after driving runs from midfield.

Alex Boss, with a curling shot over the bar, and Meilir Williams went close for the visitors.

In the second half Kirby volleyed wide from a McCready free kick and Sirrell had a shot turned away by the keeper for a corner from which Matty Hill shot just wide.

Kirby then had a shot well saved from McCready’s pass, but the breakthrough finally came on 66 minutes when Alex Downes took a return pass from Matty Hill to steer the ball into the bottom corner of the net and put Bay 1-0 up.

The Porthmadog keeper then saved from Hill, who had been put clear by Dylan Allshorn before Alex Downes got his second goal of the goal with a header from Tom McCready’s corner on 82 minutes to secure the three points.
