Match Report
COLWYN Bay left it late to beat a dogged Conwy Borough 3-0 to maintain their unbeaten start and move up to second in the JD Cymru North.
In a game which kicked off more than an hour late following a serious incident on the A55, Bay finally broke the deadlock four minutes remaining.
Alex Downes continued his fine goal scoring form, scoring with a header from Tom McCready’s corner.
McCready himself scored Bay’s second two minutes later – the captain scoring with a sweet strike after a great turn in the box.
James Kirby sealed the late victory with a third in the final minute with an effort from the edge of the area.
Bay had created enough chances to be ahead at the interval, including two efforts from McCready and Dylan Allshorn’s deflected shot.
Allshorn fired wide of the post early in the second half while Kirby has a header saves and Tommy Creamer had shot blocked before Bay broke Conway’s resistance.
Bay are two points behind but with a game in hand over leaders Buckley Town, who inflicted Llandudno’s first defeat of the season.
Manager Steve Evans said:
“We stick to the process and we keep working hard and we keep doing what we do and we got our rewards in the end.
“Too be fair Conwy were fantastic – they defended and their last ditch tackles were first class and they are a credit to their football club.
“But we worked them all night and were the fitter team and we got what we deserved I believe.”
