COLWYN BAY went top of the JD Cymru North table on goal difference and with a game in hand after a 4-0 Bank Holiday Monday victory over Mold Alexandra.
Two goals from skipper Tom McCready and one apiece fro Kristian Platt and James Kirby secured the points, while previous league leaders Buckley were beaten 2-1 at Holywell.
The Bay pressed forward from the start forcing a couple of early corners and Alex Downes bringing a save out of Mold keeper Elliot Quinllan before Tom McCready cut inside and sent a left-foot shot into the bottom corner of the net to put his side ahead on 19 minutes.
Kristian Platt headed narrowly wide from a McCready corner, but Mold came more into the game when Bay suffered the blow of losing Alex Downes through injury.
Two goals in two minutes at the start of the second half, however, put the Seagulls well in control.
Kristian Platt scored with a back post header from McCready’s corner on 47 minutes and then McCready turned on the edge of the area and curled a shot into the corner of the net for his second goal of the game.
Dylan Allshorn forced a good save from the keeper before James Kirby made it 4-0 on 73 minutes when the keeper spilled Allshorn’s cross.
In the closing minutes Quinllan made a superb double save to deny Kirby and subsitute Tom Creamer, and Ryan Woods made an excellent close range save from Shaun Tinsley to preserve his third successive clean sheet.
COLWYN BAY: Ryan Woods, Stefan Edwards, Sam Downey, Tom McCready (Tom Creamer 61), Matty Hill (Cai Owen 67), Dylan Allshorn, Guto Williams, Sam Hart, Kristian Platt, Alex Downes (Joe Williams 25), James Kirby. Unused subs: Cameron Darling (G), Ryan Edwards.
