A LATE penalty from top scorer James Kirby rescued a 2-1 victory for the Bay at home against Prestatyn Town after it looked as though they would be made to pay for a host of missed chances.
They led 1-0 at half-time with a stunning 25-yard rocket from Lewis Sirrell, but Kirby missed a big chance when he dragged his shot wide when through on goal, while Tom McCready shot over the bar from Kirby’s lay-off, Kirby and Tom Creamer both had efforts saved and Kirby headed another chance over the bar from Cai Owen’s cross and Sirrell shot over the bar from a McCready corner.
After making a number of substitutions in the second half Kirby had a shot cleared off the line after great work by Matty Hill, and Ryan Edwards shot over the bar after also being set up by Hill.
Prestatyn capitalized on all those missed opportunities by snatching an equaliser on 66 minutes with a ball in behind the Bay defence by Dylan Fletcher for Danny Atkins to fire past Ryan Woods.
Kristian Platt headed over the bar from another McCready corner, but the Bay were awarded an 84th minute penalty for a foul on Jamie Cumming and James Kirby scored his eighth goal of the campaign from the spot to put his side back in front.
Even then Prestatyn were unlucky when Atkins rattled the bar in the closing minutes, but Bay held on for an important win which keeps them three points clear at the top of the JD Cymru North Table.
