Match Report

TWO superb second half strikes from Matty Hill secured another three points as the Seagulls won 3-0 away to Mold Alex.

Cai Owen had put Colwyn Bay in front at half-time with his fourth goal of the campaign and they controlled much of the second half with Matty’s two goals putting the icing on the cake of a 22nd consecutive league victory.

His first goal was a first time volley from near the right hand corner of the penalty area and the second a 30 yard screamer into the top corner of the net in the closing minutes.

Mold had started the game quite well and Jack Chrichton did well to save with his legs in a one-on-one with Daniel Warren and Rhys Nash was narrowly wide after another Warren shot.

For the Bay a Matty Hill effort went narrowly over the bar and then Tom McCready shot wide when played in by Cai Owen.

The Bay should have taken the lead on 18 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for handball, but Mold keeper Elliot Quinllan made a fine save from Tom McCready’s spot kick and  an even better one from the follow up shot.

A third penalty miss in succession for the Seagulls.

Mold had a penalty shout for handball of their own turned down before Colwyn Bay finally broke the deadlock on 40 minutes with Cai Owen tapping in from Alex Downes’ cross.

The Seagulls were the dominant side in the second half and after Dylan Allshorn had a shot held by the keeper Matty Hill’s sweetly-struck volley made it 2-0 on 63 minutes.

Quinllan pulled off another couple of big saves and their was a goal-saving tackle by Matty Lewis in the goalmouth before Matty Hill completed the scoring with that late 30 yard screamer.

This on a day when Llandudno dropped points in a 0-0 draw at Guilsfield.
