Match Report
TOMMY CREAMER scored his 10th goal of the season, but the Seagulls couldn’t capitalise on taking the lead in front of a record Cymru North crowd at the 4 Crosses Arena of 1,330, as their 30-match unbeaten league run was ended in a 3-1 loss to top of the table rivals Holywell Town.
It means they still have work to do to secure the title as Holywell closed the gap at the top to six points with a game in hand – and on their current form look favourites to win all their four remaining games.
After equalising before half-time the visitors rocked the Bay with two goals in the opening six minutes of the second half and rarely looked like losing their grip on the game on what was a bad day at the office for Steve Evans’ side.
It started so well with Tom Creamer seizing on a defensive error to put his side ahead from the edge of the box on 24 minutes.
Poor defensive play, however, allowed Jake Cooke to head Holywell level 10 minutes later.
Holywell keeper Keighton Jones made a tremendous save from Tom McCready’s header to prevent Bay retaking the lead just before half-time, but the home sided were never able to recover from those two quick goals at the start of the second half.
Morgan Murray got the first from a poor Bay clearance and David Forbes added number three from Jake Cooke’s cross.
Dylan Allshorn had a shot deflected over the bar and Alex Downes headed narrowly wide from the corner, but that was the nearest Colwyn Bay came to getting back in the game.
COLWYN BAY: Jack Crighton, Stefan Edwards (Dylan Allshorn 56), Lewis Sirrell, Sam Downey, Tom McCready (c), Matty Hill, Guto Williams (Cai Owen 60), Sam Hart, Kristian Platt, Alex Downes, Tom Creamer (Craig Lindfield 57). Subs not used: Cameron Darling, Joe Williams, Joel Giblin.
Attendance: 1,330.
