Match Report
COLWYN BAY lifted the JD Cymru North Championship Trophy amidst joyous scenes at the 4 Cross Arena after ending their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Llandudno.
Llandudno led with a deflected shot from ex-Seagull Julian Williams, but Craig Lindfield equalised for the Bay from close range after Tom Creamer had helped on a Matty Hill cross.
The visitors started the game the brighter and Bay keeper Jack Crichton had to tip a good effort from Mason Blackwell-Jones over the bar before Julian Williams’ deflected shot crept inside the post to put Llandudno in front on 20 minutes.
Jack Crichton had to make another good save from Danny Brookwell and Shaun Cavanagh fired a chance over the bar before Colwyn Bay gradually got themselves into the game.
Tom Creamer shot over the bar with their first real effort at goal on 28 minutes and he was then denied by a diving header off the line by Brookwell from an Alex Downes cross.
Sam Downey shot over the bar from another Downes cross and although Brookwell clipped the post with a good effort for Llandudno, Colwyn Bay got their equalise three minutes before half-time.
Tom Creamer acrobatically helped on Matty Hill’s cross and Craig Lindfield was there to score from close range.
Both sides had chances in the second half with Lindfield’s effort landing on the roof of the net, while Lewis Sirrell was just wide with a 35 yarder and Tommy Creamer’s long range shot was pushed round the post by Llandudno keeper Shaun Pearson.
Lewis Sirrell denied Llandudno with a tremendous goal-line clearance from Brookwel, after a mix-up with Jack Crichton, and Joe Chaplin somehow lifted a big chance over the bar from close range.
In the end a draw was a fair result and the Bay finish the campaign with just one defeat in 30 games, winning the league by four points from runners-up Holywell Town.
