Match Report

THE Seagulls missed the chance to move to within three points of the top six in the Cymru Premier as they twice conceded the lead in 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff Met University.

After Stefan Edwards’ early goal was cancelled out by a penalty, Brandon Diau scored his first goal for the club to put the Bay 2-1 in front, only to then score an own goal to gift the visitors a point.

With Pontpridd losing, a win could have lifted Bay into the top eight, three points behind sixth-placed Bala, but instead they drop a place behind Haverfordwest who beat Aberystwyth.

In difficult wet conditions the Bay made a strong start, forcing three early corners before taking the lead on six minutes when good work by Udi Akpan set up Alex Downes to cross for Stef Edwards to stab home.

The lead, however, lasted only a furfther six minutes before they conceded a penalty from which Chris Craven put the visitors level.

Both sides had chances to take the lead before half-time, with Nick Rushton’s shot from Udi Akpan’s set-up gathered by Cardiff keeper Alex Lang, who also saved well from Alex Downes, while Bay keeper Alfie Brooks had to make a good save after Brandon Diau had lost possesion, and Cardiff’s Lewis Rees saw a shot deflected inches wide.

The second half started well for Bay and they went 2-1 up when Brandon Diau got his debut goal from Jamie Cumming’s excellent free kick.

But Brandon’s delight turned to horror five minutes later when his attempted back pass evaded Alfie Brooks and trickled into the net to hand Archers a second equaliser.

Udi Akpan brought a good save from Lang, but Bay couldn’t get back in front and it needed Alex Downes to block a goalbound effort to prevent Cardiff Met snatching all three points.
