Match Report

COLWYN BAY went out of the Nathaniel MG Cup on penalties after conceding a 2-0 half-time lead away to Prestatyn Town.

First half goals from Dylan Allshorn and Sam Turner put the Seagulls in charge, but two goals in as many minutes at the start of the second half pulled Prestatyn level and they went on to win 4-1 in the penalty shoot-out with new player-manager Karl Clair among the scorers.

Tom McCready made his first start of the campaign and had a shot saved from Tom Creamer’s lay off in the first half, while Lloyd Marsh-Hughes had an shot cleared off the line.

They had an escape, however, when Prestatyn’s Dan Atkins broke clear and saw his shot deflected onto a post.

Brandon Diau’s bicycle kick from the edge of the area was saved by home keeper Michael Jones, before the Bay took the lead on 41 minutes when Dylan Allshorn cut in from the left and rifled a shot into the corner of the net.

The lead was doubled right on half-time with Sam Turner lifting a shot over the keeper from Tom McCready’s pass.

The Seagulls, however, made a disastrous start to the second half as first Matty Scouller scored from a corner for the home side and two minutes later Macauley Clifford took advantage of some scrappy Bay defending to make it 2-2.

Manager Steve Evans rung the changes, but Bay couldn’t get back in front with Lloyd Marsh-Hughes having a close range effort saved by the keeper and Udi Akpan missing a great chance after running onto a long ball over the top of the Prestatyn defence.

The home side put their bodies on the line in the closing stages to keep the Bay out and then secured their place in the quarter-finals with a 4-1 win in the shoot-out with Dylan Allshorn the only Bay player to find the net from the spot.
