Colwyn Bay FC Foundation is delighted to announce that it has officially achieved registered charity status, marking a significant milestone in its mission to transform lives and strengthen communities across North Wales.

Since launching in January 2026, the Foundation has quickly established itself as a growing force for positive change, engaging more than 9,500 participants through a diverse range of community, education, sport, health and wellbeing initiatives.

Achieving charitable status represents an important next chapter for the Foundation, providing a stronger platform to develop its programmes, attract new investment and partnerships, and extend its reach into communities where support is needed most.

Operating as the charitable arm of Colwyn Bay Football Club, the Foundation is committed to harnessing the power of football and the unique position of the club within its community to create opportunities, remove barriers and inspire positive change.

Its growing portfolio of programmes includes Primary Seagulls, delivering curriculum-linked education and physical activity in local primary schools; Street Seagulls, providing free football, youth clubs and safe spaces for young people; Inspire, supporting secondary school pupils facing challenges with engagement and achievement; Play, promoting early childhood development; Kicking Off Careers, helping develop the skills and experience of NEET’s aged 16-25 to make them more employable and the 90 Minute Club, helping older adults remain active, connected and engaged.

Alongside these established programmes, the Foundation is developing further opportunities in education, employability, volunteering and leadership, creating pathways for people of all ages to develop skills, build confidence and achieve their potential.

The Foundation’s work is underpinned by strong relationships with schools, local authorities, community organisations, grassroots sports clubs and other key partners across the region.

Josh Antoniou, speaking on behalf of Colwyn Bay FC Foundation, said: “Achieving registered charity status is an incredibly proud moment for everyone involved with Colwyn Bay F.C Foundation and represents another significant step forward in our journey.

“When we launched the Foundation, our ambition was always to create something that went far beyond football.

“We wanted to build an organisation that could make a genuine, lasting difference to people’s lives, using the power of our football club to bring communities together and create opportunities for those who need them most.

“To have already engaged more than 9,500 participants in such a short space of time demonstrates both the demand for our work and the potential we have to make a real difference across North Wales.

“Charitable status is not simply a milestone for us to celebrate. It is an opportunity to build on the foundations we have established, strengthen our partnerships, secure sustainable investment and ultimately reach more people through our programmes.

“We have ambitious plans for the future, but our purpose will always remain the same: to ensure that Colwyn Bay Football Club is a force for good within its community, making a positive difference to people’s lives both on and off the pitch.”

Colwyn Bay F.C Director Jody Johnson added: “Achieving official charitable status is a huge step forward for the Foundation and allows us to deliver even more fantastic community programmes.

“It has been a large piece of work, and we are immensely proud of our achievements but most importantly this will benefit the wider community around the football club.

“We are already delivering a large number of quality programmes throughout the area from free football, education to health and wellbeing programmes and employment support.

“The new status will allow the foundation to grow and the impact of being able to deliver more programmes to more people across more demographics is really important for everyone connected to both the club and foundation.”

Looking to the Future

With registered charity status secured, the Foundation will now focus on expanding its existing provision, developing new community initiatives and building long-term partnerships with businesses, charitable trusts, funders and other organisations that share its commitment to creating positive social change.

Particular emphasis will be placed on supporting children and young people, tackling social isolation, improving physical and mental wellbeing, widening access to education and creating meaningful pathways into training, volunteering and employment.

The milestone also reinforces the wider ambition of Colwyn Bay Football Club to be more than a football club, placing community impact at the heart of its identity and future development.

Colwyn Bay FC Foundation looks forward to working alongside its partners, supporters and communities as it enters this exciting new chapter.
