COLWYN BAY progressed to the third round of the North Wales Coast FA Senior Challenge Cup with a 2-0 home victory over CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

Goals from Jordan Davies and Adam Davies secured the victory against a Rhyl side playing their first game under new manager Barry Owen.

The Seagulls opened the game strongly, with good attacks down both flanks and were in front after only eight minutes when Jordan Davies put a great header into the top right hand corner of the net from an Ethan Roberts cross.

Rhyl gradually grew into the game as the first half progressed and Bay, with a very youthful bench, had to make an enforced change on 40 minutes with Will McKinley – making his first team comeback – coming on for injured Matty Hill.

Young players Ben Fisher, Mason Parry and Dafi Rowlands all came on for the closing stages and the Bay saw out the tie without too many alarms, with keeper Seb Osment boasting a clean sheet on his first senior game of the season.

George Hughes also made his first senior appearance of the season after returning from injury.

Bay will be away to Denbigh Town in the Quarter Finals, which will be played in December.
