A HEADER from Kristian Platt earned Colwyn Bay a 1-0 away victory at in-form Holywell Town to move into the top four and within a point of third-placed Guilsfield in the JD Cymru North table.

The only goal came after 22 minutes and Holywell then had Myles Hart sent off in the second half for a bad tackle.

Bay defended well to block efforts from Danny Andrews and Ilan ap Gareth before Platt’s goal from a corner, and it needed a good saves by home keeper Keighan Jones to prevent Ryan Edwards and then James Kirby from adding a second Bay goal before half-time.

Dave Forbes headed narrowly over the bar for the home side, while Zebb Edwards was inches wide and Andy Coughlin saved from the dangerous Allshorn before Hart’s red card.

The 10-men of Holywell pressed hard for a late equaliser with Zebb Edwards heading inches wide, Andy Coughlin saving well from Jake Cooke and Forbes firing a chance over the bar.

Bay manager Steve Evans said:

“After a difficult few results the last couple of games have shown me a lot about the players and yesterday epitomised the desire everyone has to succeed at the club from the players, staff, board and fans. We were all fantastic.

“The togetherness we showed is something we have to take forward into our last two games and into next season.

“I thought we were the best team by far yesterday, on the front foot, winning battles all over the pitch against a very good Holywell team.

“If we would’ve taken our chances in the first half it would have been a lot more comfortable, although Holywell showed why they were unbeaten the last four games and possibly could have nicked a draw in the dying moments only for a great double save from Andy in goal.

“I don’t normally single anyone player out but today although everyone was on their game, I thought Kristian Platt was immense. He headed and kicked everything. A true leader’s performance. Well done.”
