THE Seagulls suffered their first pre-season defeat as they lost 3-1 at home to Connah’s Quay Nomads after taking a first half lead against the Welsh Prem outfit.

A Joe Williams cross forced an own goal from George Horan to put Colwyn Bay in front, but Connah’s Quay equalised with with a close range finish by Aeron Edwards.

The Bay, however, impressed in the first half and skipper Tom McCready was unlucky not to restore their lead before half-time with an effort that came back off the woodwork.

The visitors, who had won 5-0 at Llandudno at the weekend, then took control in the second half as Aron Williams headed them in front from a great cross by Harry Franklin, and Ryan Harrington added a third with a free kick after he had been fouled.

The Bay’s final pre-season game is at home to Flint Town United on Saturday (July 23rd, 2:30pm kick off).

Manager Steve Evans said after the game:

“I thought first half we started really brightly. They probably edged the first five minutes but after that I thought we more than matched them and I thought we were the better team first half.

“We played some really good stuff, scored a good goal with a ball into a dangerous area and defenders have got to try an defend it.

“We played out of tight areas quite comfortably. Tonight was a step up and I thought we more than matched them.”
