Having claimed back-to-back NWCFA Recreational Women’s League titles, we’re now delighted to reveal the club’s three year development plan for women’s football.
Building on strong foundations and with a view to increasing participation and performance, the club will retain its successful nine-a-side recreational league team for the 2026/27 campaign. This format will continue to provide an inclusive, enjoyable, and competitive environment for players of all abilities, reinforcing the club’s commitment to accessibility and community engagement.
In addition, Colwyn Bay will introduce a new ‘Elite’ Women’s Training Squad. This programme will run once per month and is designed for players aged 16 and over who are seeking to develop their game at a higher level. As part of this initiative, the elite squad will also take part in a series of 11-a-side friendly fixtures throughout the season, offering valuable experience in the full-sided format and preparing players for future competitive opportunities.
The elite women’s training squad will be open for players that wish to trial in sessions and matches.
Looking further ahead, the club has outlined ambitious plans for the 2027/28 season.
These include the launch of a dedicated FAW Girls’ Academy model aimed at nurturing young talent and creating a clear development pathway from grassroots through to senior football.
Alongside the academy, Colwyn Bay intends to enter the competitive 11-a-side women’s league structure, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of the club’s women’s programme.
On the development plans, Women’s Football Lead, Glen Houston commented: “This is a really exciting time for ladies football at the club and I’m absolutely honoured and delighted to be part of our exciting new era.
“This gives an amazing opportunity in line with our men’s model to develop players and give them an elite pathway to the 11 a side team. This is a very special club and the future is extremely bright.”
Girls 16 and over can register their interest in joining the ‘Elite’ training sessions via the form below;
